About 301 Domain Redirects

I redirected the links of the content to the new site one by one using a redirection plugin, but I did not redirect the homepage of the site. Would it be harmful if I directly redirected the site address to the new site? And is there any other action needed besides the plugin to ensure proper redirection? I also submitted a notification via Search Console.
