About the use of AdSense on the website.

Friends, I applied for AdSense for my website that I launched 1 month ago just 2 days ago, and thankfully it got approved this morning. I have 2 questions: * Do ads only earn money through clicks or do they also pay for impressions? * The ads don't quite match the theme of my website. I want to make the background of the ad box black. Some ads are small, so the area around the ad turns white and doesn't look good. I kindly ask for your help on these matters. (I don't understand coding much. Please explain for those who do.)
