Bloggers: The Issue of Number of Posts on the Homepage

I use Blogger, and today I posted a long entry with plenty of photos and text. Even though I have it set to display 10 posts on the homepage, only 5 were showing up after I posted. I did some research and discovered that this happens when the post is too long. I then found a solution where if I slightly shorten the last post, the number of displayed posts increases from 5 to around 7. However, this still disrupts the layout on the homepage. Instead of shortening the text, I want to find a definitive solution for this issue. Do you have any suggestions? ????????
