Changing the WordPress directory and updating the Google index.

Greetings, I have changed the default image directory, which comes as wp-content/uploads in WordPress, using cPanel and phpMyAdmin. Do we need to inform Google about this now, or will Google automatically understand that the directory has changed? I remember reading in a blog that it is necessary to update the directory path in the .htaccess file, etc. I am awaiting your assistance.
