How can I benefit from redirecting links from an old, highly linked page to a new page?

I used to have a very popular page with the following link: domain/abc.asp. Later on, I changed it to domain/abc-letters.asp, for example. Today, while conducting backlink checks, I noticed that my previous abc.asp page had quite a few external links pointing to it. Now, how can I best benefit from this by redirecting the old abc.asp page to the new abc-letters.asp page? Should I recreate the abc.asp page and redirect it from the root directory? Can you assist me with this?
