How should backlinks be acquired?

Let's assume that the website's category is bicycles. When acquiring backlinks, should we get a backlink to the homepage using the naked anchor text or should we get a backlink to the homepage using the keyword "bicycle"? My goal is to increase the overall authority of the website in its own field.
