How I Opened My Paypal Account
A few years ago, when I attempted to open an account, Paypal sent a small amount of money for verification purposes to the bank account I had opened in Germany through Payoneer. They asked me to provide them with the code mentioned in the transfer process. However, since Payoneer did not show the bank statement, I was unable to verify my account, and it was lost at the final stage.
Last year in July 2021, I set my mind on opening another Paypal account. The presence of a relative visiting from Germany encouraged me. Despite feeling hopeless, I decided there was no harm in trying. Since Payoneer no longer provided bank account services from Germany, I opened a Wise (formerly TransferWise) account as Wise allows opening European bank accounts from Belgium.
I proceeded by downloading the Paypal application to start the registration process. During registration, I used the free Cloudflare WARP VPN service. Although I completed a standard registration process, since I selected Belgium as my region, I continued the registration process in a different language instead of English, which I believe was the language Belgians used. For translation, I used Google's translation from a photo. I found a random address from the fake-it.ws site for details like the address and mailbox. I wrote my name, surname, and date of birth myself so that I would have a chance to recover my money in case of any issues in the future.
The only different step I took was using the +49 Germany number of my visiting relative for the mobile phone information. Since they were with me, I did not face any issues with SMS verification. After the SMS verification, this time I was not asked for bank account verification, and I started using the account and received my first payment.
Once the payment reached my Paypal account, I added the IBAN details of my Wise Belgium bank account to Paypal. When I requested a withdrawal, my money reached my Wise account a few days later. Those who have used Wise know that withdrawing directly to a Turkish bank account is quite easy and without restrictions. This made my bank account approved from Paypal's perspective. Additionally, receiving payments from reliable third-party companies like Fiverr has further enhanced my profile in Paypal's view.
A few key points to note: I verified the account with someone else's Germany-based mobile number. Of course, I will not be able to reach that person constantly. After the account was confirmed, I considered that even if I appeared to be Belgian in their eyes, I might actually be living in Turkey, in which case I would need to use Paypal. Therefore, I deleted my relative's number, and directly added my own +90 starting number to my account. SMS verification went smoothly without any issues.
I initially thought that the mobile application would open in German or Belgian and could be changed later, but it is not possible to change it via iOS. Therefore, I primarily conduct transactions at https://www.paypal.com/us/signin. While English is easier, if the mobile application is used, screenshots can be taken and translated using Google Translate's image translation feature.
Sometimes, I use a VPN (Cloudflare WARP) for security, but I don't pay attention to which country the VPN belongs to, as Cloudflare sometimes provides IPs from Bulgaria and sometimes from Germany. Perhaps, apart from the registration process, I won't encounter any issues without using a VPN. In summary, since July 2021, I have received around $250 from three or four payments and successfully completed all transactions with Paypal. Though I had low hopes when creating the account, I opened this discussion to provide insights that may be helpful to friends receiving regular payments from abroad.
