Meta tags, also known by their English name as meta tags, are HTML tags that are included in the header of a web page. They are invisible to regular visitors but highly useful for browsers or other programs that may make use of this information.

Their purpose is to include reference information (metadata) about the page, such as author, title, date, keywords, description, etc.

Not using meta tags correctly or not using them at all on your web pages can negatively impact the performance and visibility of your website.

Here are some common disadvantages of not using or improperly using meta tags:

1. Reduced visibility in search results: If a web page does not use meta tags or uses them incorrectly, search engines may not have the information they need to index and categorize the page's content properly. This can lead to decreased visibility in search results, affecting both traffic and the website's visibility.

2. Inaccurate or unclear information: If meta tags do not provide clear and accurate information about the page's content, users may struggle to understand the purpose of the page. This can result in higher bounce rates and reduced time spent on the page.

3. Compatibility issues: Some browsers or search engines may not support certain types of meta tags or may interpret them differently. Using meta tags that are not compatible with some browsers or search engines can affect user experience and site visibility.

Types of Meta Tags:

- Description Meta Tags: Provide a brief description of the page content and purpose. Search engines use this information to display descriptions in search results.

- Keywords Meta Tags: Contain a list of keywords related to the website content. Some search engines still use this for content indexing.

- Author Meta Tags: Display the author's name of the page.

- Robots Meta Tags: Indicate to search engines whether to index links on the page.

- Preview Page Meta Tags: Provide information on how the page will be displayed in results, including preview images and page titles.

- Redirection Meta Tags: Redirect users to a new page after a period of time.
