Is it normal for BitDefender to shut down while performing a major update?

I think this happens about once a month on Bitdefender. I'm not sure if it happens during major updates. It goes offline and alerts me beforehand that there will be an update, and I have to turn security back on then. Is it normal for it to go offline and shut itself down to do this?
