Is it possible to set up a game server on an empty computer?

I have a computer with an i5-2400 processor and 12 GB of DDR3 RAM. I want to turn this computer into a Minecraft server. I want to create a server that my friends can also play on. I have tried applications like Duckdns and ngrok but I couldn't manage it. If you have any ideas, I can try them as well.
