Title 60 character rule.

Hello everyone. My longest title is 65 characters, with about 8-10 pages including the homepage. The rest are around 50-60 characters. From my research, everyone says not to exceed 60 characters. The title of my site's homepage is displayed in search results with the last word cut off. I'm hesitant to make changes. Is it crucial to have exactly 60 characters, or is it just a myth?
