AdWords is an "auction-based advertising system" implemented by Google, the largest search engine, for website owners who are lagging behind in organic search results. In this system, websites secure placement in the advertising spaces designated by Google for their desired keywords through a cost-per-click bidding system. Each keyword in the AdWords system has a cost acquired through an auction system, which is determined based on the quality score and history of the website. Furthermore, AdWords ads can also be displayed on websites that host the ads of Google's partner, known as "AdSense", if desired. AdWords ads can be in three different formats: image, video, and text ads.
