AdWords is an "auction-based advertising system" by Google, the largest search engine, aimed at website owners who lag behind in organic search results. In this system, websites secure placements in Google's designated ad spaces through a cost-per-click bidding system for desired keywords. Each keyword in the AdWords system has a cost obtained through an auction, taking into account the quality score and history of the website. Additionally, AdWords ads can also be displayed on websites that host "AdSense" ads, Google's partner solution. AdWords ads can be presented in three different formats: image, video, and text ads.
