What is BCD Code?
BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) Code is a numerical coding method used in computers and electronic systems to convert decimal numbers to binary base. During this conversion process, each digit of the number is individually converted to binary base (usually expressed with four or eight bits, but can have different lengths), and then the binary values corresponding to each digit are combined sequentially to obtain the representation of the number with BCD Code.
Although the binary system is the most natural system for a computer, most people are more familiar with the decimal system. The biggest advantage of BCD Code is that binary numbers coded with BCD in electronic systems can be easily understood by people and converted to the decimal system.
While BCD Code is not as widely used today as it used to be, it was commonly used in the past in computers using the decimal system. Today, it is still used in systems in fields such as finance, industry, and commerce where integer or decimal number operations are important.
