What is Thunderbolt?
Thunderbolt (code named: Light Peak) is an interface used to connect peripherals. It was developed by Intel. Thunderbolt simply aims to combine the functionalities of PCI Express and DisplayPort interfaces to create cheaper and longer-lasting cables. Although originally intended to use Fiberoptic cables, the preference shifted to using traditional copper cables due to advancements in technology, allowing for cheaper access to 10 Gb/s bandwidth.
