What System to Use for an Association or Community Website

Hello. We have a community with participants from many parts of the country. We want to create a common platform to organize regular activities, share news about our community, and establish a visually appealing but not too overwhelming website. In terms of systems, I am considering PHP Fusion and Joomla. I find PHP Fusion pleasing as I have used it before. Joomla seems too complex and detailed to me. There are also paid versions of WordPress customized as portals. Which one would you recommend and why? Thank you in advance.
